Corn flakes, Chocolate and walnut give you a piece of heaven!

I am a chocoholic and there’s nothing that will make me merrier than to have this delicious meal as my breakfast. Whenever I wake up and have my tea, all I want is to eat something that tastes like heaven but doesn’t take much time to prepare. I like baking and cooking and trying out some new dishes but not in the morning. In the morning, I only want to eat, not cook. I do the “hard-work” in afternoon. And that ‘s the reason why I love this snack. I like corn flakes but the reason I was never into corn flakes was because there was no chocolate. 😛 It might sound silly but yes, that’s the truth. There are two things that I like in a dish is that either it should be spicy or sweet. This recipe just made my dream come true. Now, this recipe doesn’t take more than 10 minutes and it is very easy to prepare. All you’re going to need are Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, vanilla essence, chopped roasted almonds, dark chocolate and milk chocolate. The quantities and method for preparing the dish are mentioned below. Enjoy!

Preparation Time: 3 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Singaporean Egg Tart

Image Source: http://i.cdn.travel.cnn.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_large/public/article-images/large/kfc_eggtart_MAIN.jpg?itok=f-RaiO_7

“Singaporean cuisine is indicative of the ethnic diversity of the culture of Singapore which originated from Malaysia, as a product of centuries of cultural interaction owing to Singapore’s strategic location. The food is influenced by the native Malay, the predominant Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, Peranakan, and Western traditions (particularly English and some Portuguese-influenced Eurasian, known as Kristang) since the founding of Singapore by the British in the nineteenth century. Influences from other areas such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the Middle East exist in local food culture as well.” (Wikipedia)

Now, I am someone who just cannot like without desserts. Chocolates and all the sweet things are my life. I love going to different places and trying their different variety of baked goods (specially pastries). In the past couple of days I have read So much about Singaporean Cuisine that visit Singapore has become one of my dreams.

The one thing I loved about Singapore is that it has such a variety of food from all the different cultures that anyone who goes to Singapore, wouldn’t have problem in finding his/her favorite food on the menu.

One of the dishes that I loved in the Singaporean cuisine is Singaporean Egg Tart.

What is a tart?

A Tart is an open pastry case containing a sweet  or savoury filling inside. It is = more like a pie. The outer covering is of flour (in shape of a container) and inside is the filling.

What is Singaporean Egg Tart?

Egg tart is one of the delicacies/deserts that can be found in most Asian countries, especially in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Egg tart or egg custard tart is a kind of custard tart pastry which consist of an outer pastry crush that is filled with egg custard in between and baked. It’s a very small size pastry that can be eaten after meals. It’s light and healthy. The crust is brownish and the egg custard is of yellow color. Different colors or flavors can also be added into the tart’s filling to change its flavor. For example there’s a strawberry flavored egg tart the filling of which is of pink color because of the fact that strawberry is added in the batter before baking it to enhance its flavor. When you talk about egg tarts in Singapore, most people will point you to Tong Heng Confectionery for their iconic pastry.
“In a recent Facebook survey, it comfortably garnered 47 out of 90 votes which is quite a feat considering the next runner-up only had less than 10 votes!” (Source)
A lot of people in Singapore like egg tart but it’s not easy to say why it is so appealing. The egg tart has taken on various shapes, but it was not until the 1960′s that it finally settled on the iconic diamond-shaped form.

Singapore: The Food Paradise

This is unknown to many that Singapore is commonly known as “Food Paradise”. It is a multiracial country and people living here are from variety of cultures. Therefore this is obvious that food here is available in a huge variety. Like here, shopping is considered to be the favorite hobbie, in Singapore it’s shopping and food. You’ll easily find foodies on the streets of Singapore. Singapore offers a wide variety of food for every culture that includes Chinese, Indian, Malaya, Japanese, Italian, French, etc. So, if you visit Singapore,  choosing something to order/eat will be the most difficult decision to make given the fact that the menus there are never-ending. Still, you can ask the locals about the famous dishes you can try there. However. there’s many. Other than its famous dishes such as Chicken rice, Chili crab,Carrot cake (chai tow kuay), Fried Hokkien mee, Oyster omelette, etc, the one dish that I find absolutely amazing is The Egg Benedict Prata.

Singapore is also famous for its wide range of Roti Pratas that are cooked in a very innovative manner. Nevertheless this is the one prata that I have heard about a lot.

What is a Roti Prata?

“Roti prata is a fried flour-based pancake that is cooked over a flat grill. It is usually served with a vegetable or meat-based curry and is from Malaysia and Singapore. Prata is also commonly cooked upon request with cheese, onion, banana, red bean, chocolate, mushroom or egg. It is listed at number 45 in the World’s 50 most delicious foods readers’ poll compiled by CNN Go in 2011.” (Wikipedia)

What is the Egg Benedict Prata?

The Egg Benedict prata is a fluffy biscuit-like roti prata which is served with an egg that is poached on the spot. The egg is cooked from outside but the yolk of the egg is raw. When you cut the egg in half, you’ll easily see the egg yolk coming out. It’s sticky and delicious to eat. People who eat half fried eggs would find it mouth-watering. The texture of the prata is biscuit-like and it is crispy on the outside. The pratas in Singapore are usually eaten with curry ( which is either Fish curry or Chicken curry). But if you do visit Singapore and try this dish, ask for some “chicken-masala”. It adds even more flavor to the dish and makes you drool. The combination results in a spicy yet tasty dish. It is usually eaten as a breakfast or brunch snack but can be eaten anytime. The dish is neither too heavy nor too light. That’s the best thing about the pratas in Singapore.

Where can you try this dish out?

Even though this prata is available in almost all the restaurants of Singapore, you can try this out here:

The Prata Place Main: 1 Thong Soon Ave, Springleaf Estate, Singapore 787431 Outlets: (a) Blk 340, #01-1679 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 Singapore 560340 (b) Blk E, Stall 2, 180 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore 569830 7.30am-12mn T: +65 6459 5670 facebook

This is one of the most famous places in Singapore famous for its delicious food and great service. You’ll very easily find the name of this place on any food-blog.
